Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh. Kirtan Sohila, the night time prayer, is essential not just for Amritdhari Sikhs but for all Sikhs. Whether we are Keshdhari or not, the true power of this Gurbani has immense effect on anyone who recites it. It contains the contribution of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Guru Ram Daas Ji and Guru Arjan Dev Ji. A notable sakhi which highlights the powers of this bani, is from the times of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. A wealthy man donated land to Guru Ji, and this land was later renamed Kartarpur. Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh. This week marked the Parkaash of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, our sixth Guru and the founder of the concept of Miri Piri. Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji became the Guru on June 11th 1606, after the Shaheedi of his father, Guru Arjan Dev Ji. Baba Buddha Ji performed the ceremony for his Gurgaddi, and Guru Sahib asked Baba Buddha to adorn him with a sword, rather than the Seli of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj. Guru Ji then put on one sword on his left side, and one on his right side. He named one "Miri", representing temporal power, and he named the other "Piri", representing spiritual power. One was to crush the oppressor, the other was to defend the innocent. This began the martial training and arming of the Sikhs. The importance of Nagar Kirtans

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh. As we approach Vaisakhi, many towns and cities will be leading a Nagar Kirtan to mark the significance of Vaisakhi. Whilst many of us will attend, not all of us are aware of the importance and meaning behind the procession. The word 'Nagar' generally means town or city, and 'Kirtan" is the singing of Shabads, therefore it literally translates to 'Neighbourhood Kirtan'. The concept of a Nagar Kirtan is to bring the message of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj to the forefront of the community. The procession is lead by the embodiment of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj, in the form of the Panj Pyare. Behind the Panj Pyare is the float which carries Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, and in many cases there are multiple other floats which follow behind the float of Guru Sahib.
